Welcome to the Website of Local 813,
a proud and outstanding member of the International Brotherhood of the Teamsters (IBT). Local 813 is a part of one of the largest unions in the United States.

The local exists to offer advice, assistance, and support to an active membership that works in the New York metropolitan area, while obtaining for its members in the private sanitation and funeral industry some of the highest wages and one the most comprehensive health benefits package in the country.

Local members are concerned about unfair labor practices, management abuses, cutbacks in wages and cutbacks in benefits, and the strong overall anti-labor movement that has emerged in recent years. These are just some of the challenges that every worker must face in the 21st Century.

All of the members of the union make Local 813 one of the most diverse locals in the country. The union represents hard working employees in the private sanitation industry, the funeral industry, the demolition industry, the paper and corrugated industry, and the factory and warehouse industry.

This local was created 54 years ago and still exists to serve a membership that is concerned about the future of the Labor movement in America.

The union is only as strong as its membership. We encourage our members to be active and remain active in all of the areas of struggle that confront the labor movement.

2008 LABOR DAY PARADE

Local 813 is participating in this year's parade. Local 813 will assemble on West 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, New York City, 9:00 a.m.

The theme for this year's parade is entitled "Wounded Warrior" paying tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country.

Refereshments will be available. Hope you can join us.

Please contact the union if you will be attending. Those members who have served in the armed forces, please contact the union as soon as possible.

FREE CDL TRAINING PROGRAM

Joint Council No.16 is offering free training for Teamster members to obtain their CDL license. To participate, you must have a clean driver's license -- NYS Class "B" permit with airbrake endorsement. Your current license must be clean. For further information, contact the union office.
