Nathaniel Pinkney Memorial Scholarship Fund

Nathaniel Pinkney, Jr.,
In Memorium:

Nathaniel Pinkney, Jr., known to everyone in Teamsters Local 813 as “Nat” died on March 11, 2005 after a sudden brief illness. Nat was a Business Agent and a Trustee on the Local 813 Executive Board. He was also a Trustee on the Local 27 Welfare and Pension Trust Funds.

Nat championed the rights of the working man. He represented and supported the membership with vigor and determination. His quiet nature and quick smile with those beautiful dimples were his calling card. But his agenda was always clear, fight for the rights of the membership. Nat was truly an advocate in securing and defending Local 813 members at their job. More importantly, he was their friend.

The Pinkney families were all good Teamsters. Nat inherited his strong labor background from his father, Nathaniel Pinkney Sr. Nat’s father was a tractor trailer driver for Republic Container, a Union shop, for over thirty-two (32) years. Nat was encouraged by his father to get his license and later started to drive for the same company. Nat worked side by side with his father for fourteen (14) years until Republic Container went out of business. His father then retired and Nat went on to drive for Star Corrugated Company.

Nat was a friend to everyone he come in contact. His warmth, kindness and gentle way were indeed his trademark. He was a positive influence in the lives he touched.

Nat was a family man. He was a beloved husband and a very loving father to his four daughters. He cherished his brother and sisters, and adored his mother and grandmother. He was a thoughtful and loving grandfather.

Shortly after Nat’s passing, a decision was made by the Local 813 Executive Board to rename the Local 813 Scholarship Fund to the Nathaniel Pinkney Jr., Memorial Scholarship Fund. How proud he would have been to have the scholarship named in his honor and memory.

It is in the sincere hope of our Executive Board, that the future recipients of this scholarship, appreciate Nat’s desire and concern for education, and make him proud.

Nathaniel Pinkney, Jr., will always be remembered fondly.
